VESTS ARE THE GO!!
It was such a strange sensation, it’s 4 days away from Summer in QLD and it’s been really hot for weeks already but when we hit the water this morning the body went into shock. It was cold. I don’t mean “oh the winds a bit chilly cold”, I mean the water temp was like winter and it was freezing cold to touch. Happens a bit when we get those dodgy NE swells in summer but it always surprises. Lucky I always surf with a vest, normally my favourite l/s 1mm super stretchy puppy, but sometimes I wear a short sleeve version. For me personally, besides my favourite board, a good vest is my second best friend when it comes to my surfing equipment. This June I was surfing alot in my boardies and vest then started using my steamer in July. In summer I always use one for the early and then if the wind is up a bit later in the day they protect you from that. In march when we went to Hawaii most of the guys didn’t bring vests and by the end of the trip had all purchased them from the XCEL factory in Haleiwa. A few years ago I got the heads up a week before a Fiji trip, Macca rang me and said make sure you bring ya vest as the trade winds are up and they go right through you. Since that trip I have never travelled without one. They also protect you from the reef and obviously the sun. Most crew use them only in Spring and Autumn and yes that’s when we seem to sell the most, but if you’re unsure of what to buy that special surfer person in your life this Christmas….buy them a vest. Guarantee you they will be stoked! Reesy
